NATHAN BEELER
Dr. Nathan Beeler holds a Doctorate of Musical Arts in Music Education from Boston University. His research interests include Indigenous musics in settler classrooms and repertoire selection for authentic multi-cultural teaching. He is also interested in alternative vehicles for music education delivery in secondary schools. His dissertation is "Stepping Toward a Culture: Mi'kmaq Music in Settler Instrumental Music Classrooms and Rehearsals."
As a conductor, he has been resident conductor for several Halifax ensembles, including The Scotia Brass and the Dalhousie University Wind Ensemble, and has guest conducted the Nova Scotia Youth Orchestra, Nova Sinfonia, and the Chebucto Symphony Orchestra.
Nathan has spoken or presented at the Calgary City Teachers Conference, the Prime Minister’s Award for Teaching Excellence award winner presentations, the Nova Scotia Music Educators Conference, and the Canadian Music Educators Association Conference. He is a frequent adjudicator and has worked in this capacity in Newfoundland, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, Ontario and Manitoba.

He has an undergraduate degree in music education from Acadia University and a Master’s degree in conducting from the University of Manitoba. While in Manitoba, he studied conducting with Earl Stafford, former music director of Canada’s Royal Winnipeg Ballet.
In 2010, Nathan was a recipient of the Prime Minister's Award for Teaching Excellence, one of Canada’s highest awards for educators.
